Sourav Ganguly praised Shreyas Iyer for his remarkable improvement over the past year and urged Gautam Gambhir to push for his selection in all formats after his brilliant IPL 2025 performance.

Shreyas Iyer showcased his dominance with a stunning knock in Punjab Kings’ IPL 2025 opener. His unbeaten 97 off 42 balls powered PBKS to a strong 243/6, securing an 11-run win over Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium. His innings featured five fours and nine sixes, setting the stage for a successful defense as GT managed 232/5.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly praised Iyer’s remarkable progress, highlighting his transformation into a player capable of excelling in all formats. Over the past year, Iyer has refined his technique and adapted well to different challenges, making a strong case for international selection.

“Shreyas Iyer the most improved batsman in last 1 yr .. ready for all formats. Great to see his improvement after a few issues on length,” Ganguly wrote on X.

Notably, Shreyas Iyer had an inconsistent run in 2024 despite being a key ODI player. He was dropped from the Test squad early in the year but bounced back with a strong Ranji Trophy campaign, helping Mumbai win the 2023/24 title.

Earlier in 2025, he played a role in India’s Champions Trophy win, further strengthening his case for a regular spot across formats. His 97* against Gujarat Titans in Punjab Kings’ IPL opener reaffirmed his credentials. His next challenge comes on April 1, when Punjab Kings face Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow.
