Tamim Iqbal Remains Under Observation

Medical tests confirmed a major heart attack, prompting an immediate angiogram and angioplasty to remove a blockage. Doctors successfully completed the procedure, and he remains under observation.

“He returned to us in a critical condition. We can call it a heart attack, and we subsequently did an angiogram and angioplasty to remove the blockage. The medical procedure has gone smoothly. He is currently under observation. The swift coordination between the medical staff at BKSP and the hospital ensured Tamim was treated quickly,” News18 quoted the doctors as saying later.

Tamim Iqbal suffered a heart attack while playing in a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in Savar. He complained of chest discomfort, and authorities initially planned to airlift him to Dhaka. However, he was instead taken to Fazilatunnesa Hospital for urgent treatment.

Since retiring from international cricket in January, Tamim has been active in domestic matches and commentary. He had previously confirmed his decision to step away from international cricket, stating he wanted to avoid distractions ahead of the Champions Trophy. Despite requests from Bangladesh’s captain and selectors to return, he remained firm in his decision. Tamim had not been part of the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s contract for over a year.
