Virat Kohli looked back at his first-ever IPL ‘Player of the Match’ award ahead of RCB’s upcoming home game against Delhi Capitals.

Virat Kohli is all set to feature for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday, April 10. Interestingly, it was against the same Delhi-based franchise that Kohli earned his first-ever ‘Player of the Match’ (POTM) award in the Indian Premier League.

In a recent interaction with sports presenter Jatin Sapru on JioHotstar, Kohli reflected on the special moment. The veteran batter had scored 56 runs off 38 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, during the 2011 season against Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals). His crucial knock helped RCB clinch a close win by three wickets.

During the post-match interview back then, Kohli had said, “To be honest I did not plan to bat like that when I went in but I started hitting the ball well and I took charge from Chris (Chris Gayle). That was the plan in the middle that he could play himself in and I would go for my shots because I was hitting it well.”

Reacting to his own quote now, Kohli couldn’t help but laugh. “Chris could play himself in, waah. Galat fahmi dekh lo (Chris could play himself in, wow. Look at the misunderstanding),” he said, laughing out loud.

The humorous moment was shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), where fans enjoyed Kohli’s candid reaction. The former India captain has looked in strong form this IPL season. Kohli has scored 164 runs in four matches so far, averaging 54.66 with a strike-rate of 143.85. He already has two half-centuries to his name.

In RCB’s last outing against Mumbai Indians, he played a key role by scoring 67 off 42 deliveries, smashing eight fours and two sixes. His effort set the foundation for a competitive total, and RCB eventually won that match by 12 runs. As RCB prepare to host DC in Bengaluru, the team will be aiming for their first home win of the season. So far, all three of their victories have come on the road, while their only defeat occurred at home.
