Yuzvendra Chahal believes Punjab Kings will finish in the top two this IPL season and could even win their first title.
Star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has set high expectations for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. Signed for ₹18 crore in the mega auction after being released by Rajasthan Royals, Chahal joined the Mohali-based team with strong ambitions. The veteran spinner, who holds the record for most wickets in IPL history, believes Punjab Kings can secure a top-two finish this season. He also backed the team to go all the way and win their maiden IPL title under captain Shreyas Iyer.
“We are coming in the top 2; we are the best team. If you look at the bowling and batting, we have 7-8 options in bowling. If you look at the batting, we have 9-10 options. We have a very balanced side. I think it’s a very good sign that the team will be a champion this year. Our focus is on finishing in the top two and securing a place in the playoffs,” Chahal told JioHotstar.
“The team environment is really good. We are like a family. We are treating everyone equally. We are really enjoying both on and off the field,” he added. Chahal, who was bought for ₹18 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, also addressed the high price tag, stating it does not affect his mindset. “I deserve this price tag. When you are playing, you don’t think about what price you fetched in the auction. Whether you go for INR 6 crore or INR 18 crore, it is the same mindset, and you just want to make the team win,” he said.
Punjab Kings have never lifted the IPL trophy despite making the final once in 2014. With a balanced squad in place, the franchise will hope to break that streak in 2025 and make a serious push for playoff qualification and beyond.
